I bet you have at least one.

That thing you bought to β€œdo your exercises" with.

That device that's supposed to help β€œget out knots.”

That contraption for "getting a quick movement sesh in.”

But, with so many ideas for what you could work on body-wise and not so much time available, are some of your toys...lonely?

Here are the lesser-used items in my movement toy bin:

βš–οΈ A mini crane scale:

🧱
This rubber lump pillow:

I grind my upper butt into it sometimes, but I hadn’t tried standing on it until composing this message.

What else might it be good for?

🟒 TWENTY-FOUR identical small circular bands:

At one time, I used these while teaching group classes.

But if I keep 24 identical bands, I must figure out how to use them. ALL of them.

πŸ‘€ This stupid thing

I want to love the β€œiron neck.”

I want to tell you that it makes me feel like I have the neck of an athletic young swan.

I want to tell you that an Instagram ad sold me something life-changing.

But the glide feels sandy, and it feels like I'm wearing a head bucket. Needless to say, I don't start each morning with my head strapped in.

(not that I've offered much of an endorsement, but if you want to experience it yourself, here's a link that pays me)

😏 Back to you!

Maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm wrong, and you use all your stretchy bands and rolly things.

No dusty weights, crusty bands, or sad poles in your movement space!

But...

if you are like most people I know, you have a bin, corner, (
or garage full) of items that could use a good tinkering and a body that could benefit from it.

That's why I’m inviting you over to my Zoom house for a free-if-you-want-it-to-be event that is somewhere between a movement research party and a naughty study hall.

Movement Toy Party:
Let's be people who use our equipment

A mix of brief socialization, creative prompting, and some on-your-own practice time.

We will:

  • Explore the joys of unintended uses
  • Turn generic exercises into sensory-dance experiences
  • probably LOL

Get your myofascial smooshers, your stretchy things, your cold weights or poles. Get to know your furniture in new ways.

Use anything you have, Reader.

If you have something that you don’t quite know what to do with, you’ll know by the end of this session.

Let’s play, shall we?

Hit reply and tell me what toy you are bringing.

PS:
I’m hoping y’all can help me figure out what to do with 24 medium-weight small circular bands, a.k.a. β€œbooty bandsβ€œ by myself in my bedroom.

I’m about to show you something no one has seen before: Inside my Instagram saves. Spin, static, and "I could try that with my pants on" pole videos are all kept separate. I save IG videos into folders so that when I need to show a student something, or the rare mood strikes to try some of these skills on myself, I know exactly where to find it.Plus, training gets confusing when acrobatic videos are mixed in with my #calligraphytips and #chilicrisprecipe saves 🌢️ Thinking back, studying other...
